HIV remains an important public health problem in the East Midlands.
The numbers of HIV positive people living in the East Midlands has nearly doubled in the last 10 years from 2,421 in 2007 to 4,569 in 2016, with new diagnoses made in the East Midlands reducing from 347 in 2007 to 244 in 2016. This is broadly similar to the pattern seen nationally.
